Rugby league history
One of the oldest continuously used rugby league grounds in the world. Set a still-standing ground attendance record of 23,989 for a Challenge Cup third-round tie against Leeds on 14 March 1925. Batley won the first-ever Rugby League Challenge Cup in 1897 (played at Headingley, not here, but the club is based at Mount Pleasant). Dewsbury Rams used the ground as a temporary home from 1991-1994.
