Rugby league history

Hosted matches in the 1995 Rugby League World Cup, including Fiji's 52-6 win over South Africa, and later staged Emerging Nations Tournament fixtures. The club bought the 13-acre site outright in 1957. A Challenge Cup tie against Warrington drew a reported ground-record crowd of around 14,000, well above the modern capacity of roughly 7,800.
