Rugby league history
A suburban Brisbane rugby league ground in Bardon that was the original home of the Western Suburbs (Wests) Rugby League Football Club, hosting the club's Brisbane Rugby League (BRL) and, later, Queensland Cup fixtures. Wests used Purtell Park as their home venue through the BRL era and into the Queensland Cup, up until the end of the 2003 season, after which the club's senior representative football moved elsewhere. The ground is now primarily a junior and community sporting facility, home to the Wests Brisbane Juniors Rugby League Football Club (around 300 young players), with the former football clubhouse converted into a community arts centre.
Also used by the Voices of Birralee children's choir (around 400 members), Western Districts Gymnastics, and for Premier Touch Football.
