Rugby league history
The Recreation Football Ground, West Wyalong, was the home venue of the West Wyalong club, appearing in Rugby League Project's records across a broken run of seasons from 1911 to 1969 (1911, 1925, 1933-34, 1938-41, 1948-49, 1951, 1956-58, 1960, 1962-63 and 1965-69), predominantly hosting Maher Cup fixtures against other South West Slopes and Riverina towns such as Temora, Cootamundra, Young and Gundagai. The earliest recorded match is a very early tour fixture rather than a Maher Cup game — Goldfields 23-8 South Sydney, part of a South Sydney touring itinerary, on 15 July 1911 — and the last recorded match is a 15-16 Maher Cup loss to Turvey Park on 3 May 1969.
