Stade Yves-du-Manoir

Montpellier, Languedoc-Roussillon, France

Stade Yves-du-Manoir, Montpellier, France — opened 2007, 2 rugby league games hosted, home of Montpellier Hérault Rugby (Top 14 rugby union).

Sourcing caveat: Rugby League Project's venue page for "Stade Yves-du-Manoir" appears to conflate this Montpellier stadium (built 2007) with the differently-located, identically-named Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes near Paris (renamed 1928) -- the page's own "opened 1928" figure belongs to Colombes, not Montpellier, and a recorded 1965 match almost certainly did not happen at this ground given it did not yet exist. We have published only the corroborated 2011 fixture.

Rugby league history

Rugby League Project's own directory records two matches at a venue called "Stade Yves-du-Manoir" in Montpellier -- but only one of them can genuinely belong to the stadium that has stood in Montpellier since 2007. The 4 June 2011 Super League fixture (Catalans Dragons 20 def. Wigan Warriors 12, attendance 9,372) is well corroborated: it is independently reported by specialist rugby league outlets as the first rugby league match ever played at Montpellier's Stade Yves-du-Manoir, part of Catalans Dragons' occasional strategy of staging home fixtures away from Perpignan to grow the sport regionally in France. The other recorded match -- 18 November 1965, a Midi Selection side losing 10-23 to a touring New Zealand side -- cannot be a genuine Montpellier fixture: the Montpellier stadium would not be built for another 42 years. Rugby League Project's own summary page for this venue actually lists a "Year Built/Opened" of 1928, which is not the Montpellier ground's real opening year at all -- it is the year the Colombes stadium (near Paris) was renamed Yves-du-Manoir. This is strong internal evidence that Rugby League Project's database has conflated two differently-located, identically-named stadiums onto one venue page, in the same pattern already found affecting the "Athletic Grounds" venue record (Tamworth, NSW vs Rochdale, England). We could not independently confirm where the 1965 Midi Selection match was actually played, so rather than either silently republishing it as a Montpellier fixture or guessing at Colombes, we publish only the well-corroborated 2011 Super League match here and flag the 1965 entry as a probable data-conflation error inherited from Rugby League Project's own records.
