Ground facts
| Opened | mid-1970s (as Stanthorpe rugby league's home ground) (Stanthorpe Gremlins' own club history states the club moved to Sullivan Oval, on land provided by Stanthorpe Shire Council and then levelled, turfed and lit by the club committee, in the mid-1970s -- yet Rugby League Project's own results database lists two much earlier matches at "Sullivan Oval" by name: 1921 (Stanthorpe vs the touring New Zealand "All Blacks") and 1922 (Stanthorpe vs the touring NZ Maori side). This was independently re-verified by directly fetching Rugby League Project's results page, which does explicitly label the venue "Sullivan Oval" for both 1921 and 1922 fixtures. This is a genuine, unresolved conflict between the primary match database and the home club's own published history -- most likely explained by Rugby League Project retrospectively attributing historic Stanthorpe fixtures (probably played at an earlier, separately unrecorded ground such as the town Showgrounds) to the town's only currently-catalogued venue page, but no source confirms this explanation directly, so both figures are disclosed rather than one being silently dropped.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
Hosted two international touring matches long before becoming Stanthorpe's settled home ground -- the 1921 New Zealand "All Blacks" and 1922 NZ Maori touring sides both played "Stanthorpe" here per Rugby League Project's own records (see opened_caveat for the dating conflict this creates). After 1922 there is a genuine roughly 77-year gap in Rugby League Project's records until 1999, plausible given the ground's era-appropriate role hosting mostly untracked local competition matches, with only occasional Queensland Cup "home away from home" fixtures for regional/city-based QLD Cup clubs (Toowoomba Clydesdales in 1999, Sunshine Coast in 2015, Townsville in 2023) meeting Rugby League Project's recording threshold. The ground hosted Stanthorpe rugby league's centenary "Team of the Century" celebration in 2019 (that event itself is not in the recorded results). Remains the Gremlins' active home ground as of 2022, with ongoing incremental upgrades.
