Rugby league history
Built at Sydney Olympic Park for the 2000 Sydney Olympics as the showground's main arena, the venue became a part-time NRL ground when the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs relocated a portion of their home games there from 2001, continuing until 2005 before the club moved on to what became ANZ Stadium/Accor Stadium nearby. During that stretch it hosted two NRL finals matches involving the Bulldogs. Since 2012 the ground (as Škoda/Spotless/Giants/ENGIE Stadium) has been the AFL home of the Greater Western Sydney Giants and is also used by Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League; it has not hosted first-grade rugby league on a regular basis since the Bulldogs' departure, though it recorded 66 rugby league matches in total across NRL, NSW Cup/reserve grade and finals fixtures largely concentrated in the 2001-2005 period.
Now primarily an AFL venue (GWS Giants) and a Big Bash League cricket venue (Sydney Thunder), distinct from the newer, larger Accor Stadium (ANZ Stadium) elsewhere at Sydney Olympic Park.
