Name history
Rugby league history
Taree Park was the Manning River district's principal representative sports ground in the early 20th century, hosting a famous 1920 rugby union tour match against the New Zealand All Blacks as well as two 1920s rugby league fixtures against a touring South Sydney side, part of the wave of Sydney first-grade clubs' country exhibition trips that helped grow the young code outside the city only a decade or so after rugby league split from rugby union in New South Wales. The ground survives today under council management, now used for Australian rules football and cricket rather than rugby league.
