Ground facts
| Opened | early 1900s (as a racecourse) (A general horse-racing venue opening date (vaguely stated as "early 1900s" by Wikipedia, with a motor/speedway track added in 1908), not rugby-league-specific and not precisely dated by any source. Rugby League Project's own venue page gives no opening date at all. Wikipedia's dedicated article on the racecourse makes no mention of rugby league whatsoever -- its entire recorded history is framed around horse racing, motor/speedway racing, and aviation (site of the first powered flight in Australia, 1909) -- so the venue's rugby league use rests on Rugby League Project alone, with no independent corroboration.) |

Name history
Rugby league history
The racecourse's far more extensive documented history is entirely non-rugby-league: site of the first powered flight in Australia (1909), a motor/motorcycle speedway track (built 1908, used into the early 1920s), an aircraft factory during WWII, a motor vehicle assembly plant (1947-1975, Nuffield Australia then BMC then Leyland Australia), and a naval stores depot in the mid-1990s. Located in Zetland, the site is now being redeveloped into high-density housing as part of the Green Square urban renewal area; a former totalisator building survives as the Green Square library, and a park called "Tote Park" preserves the site's racecourse history.
