Ground facts

Openedunknown (No confirmed opening date; a 1940s photo places the ground in existence by then, but no earlier or more specific date is documented. Waratah is confirmed as a genuine, established inner Newcastle suburb roughly 6km from the CBD, so this site's area field is accurate here.)

Name history

    Rugby league history

Waratah Oval is primarily a suburban Newcastle cricket ground. Its only rugby league use on record is two 2018 NSWRL Women's Premiership fixtures hosted by CRL Newcastle (Combined Rugby League Newcastle), a representative women's side -- a single-season footnote rather than any ongoing rugby league tenancy.
