Alt Park
Huyton, Merseyside, England
Alt Park, Huyton, England — opened 1968, 239 rugby league games hosted, home of Huyton RLFC (formerly Liverpool City, who relocated from Knotty Ash).
Sourcing caveat: This project's Knotty Ash write-up states Alt Park opened in August 1969, sourced to the Liverpool Stanley Wikipedia article. Total Rugby League instead describes the move to Huyton as happening in 1968, with the club playing away from Alt Park (mainly at Widnes) for much of the 1968-69 season while the new ground was finished — and Rugby League Project's match log shows a Huyton fixture at Alt Park itself as early as 30 March 1968. The two possible readings (ground opened 1968 vs. 1969) have not been fully reconciled here; both years appear in credible sources.
Ground facts
| Opened | 1968 (Sources disagree on exactly when the ground itself was usable: Total Rugby League states the club (by then renamed Huyton, having left Knotty Ash) relocated to Alt Park in 1968 but had to play home games elsewhere (mainly nine miles away at Widnes) during the 1968-69 season because of construction delays; Rugby League Project's own match log shows a Huyton home fixture at Alt Park as early as 30 March 1968. This project's separate Knotty Ash write-up instead states Alt Park "opened in August 1969" (per Wikipedia's Liverpool Stanley article). The exact date the ground was fully open is unresolved between sources.) |

Rugby league history
Alt Park in Huyton, Merseyside was the successor ground to Knotty Ash for the rugby league club that became Huyton RLFC, following the loss of the Knotty Ash lease at Mill Yard. The move was backed by the Rugby Football League and the local council, part of an effort to keep the code alive in a Liverpool-area city otherwise dominated by football. Huyton played their rugby league fixtures at Alt Park through the 1970s and into the early 1980s before relocating again, to Runcorn, in 1984; the Runcorn-based club eventually folded in 1997.
