Belle Vue (Doncaster)

Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England

Belle Vue (Doncaster), Doncaster, England — opened 1922, 80 rugby league games hosted, home of Doncaster Rovers F.C. (primary tenant); Doncaster RLFC (rugby league groundshare).

Sourcing caveat: Belle Vue (Doncaster) is confirmed as a different — and later — ground from Tattersfield, not an earlier one: Tattersfield (1953-1995) was Doncaster RLFC's own dedicated ground, and the club moved to Belle Vue (a pre-existing football stadium, shared with Doncaster Rovers) only afterwards, following an intermediate spell at Meadow Court Stadium. There is a minor, unresolved discrepancy between the RLP match log's date range for the venue (1983-2006) and the club's own cited main tenancy there (1998-2003) — both are reported here rather than silently reconciled.

Not to be confused with Tattersfield, Doncaster RLFC's long-term dedicated ground (1953-1995) — Belle Vue was primarily and originally a football stadium.)

Rugby league history

Belle Vue was Doncaster Rovers' football ground for over eight decades. Doncaster's rugby league club — which had played its first-ever match in 1951 at the York Road Greyhound Stadium and then spent its long-term formative decades (1953-1995) at its own purpose-built Tattersfield ground — later used Belle Vue as a home venue in a groundshare arrangement, as recorded across several of the club's various incarnations (Doncaster, Doncaster Dragons, Doncaster Lakers). Rugby League Project logs 80 rugby league matches at Belle Vue, with recorded fixtures spanning from a Second Division match against Cardiff in March 1983 through to an April 2006 National League Cup tie shortly before the football ground's own closure; club sources describe the main rugby league tenancy there as running 1998-2003, between spells at Meadow Court Stadium and the Doncaster Dome/Club Doncaster Sports Village.

Primarily and for most of its life a football ground — long-term home of Doncaster Rovers F.C.
