Borough Park (Blackpool)

Blackpool, Lancashire, England

Borough Park (Blackpool), Blackpool, England — opened 1963, 400 rugby league games hosted, home of None (defunct: Blackpool Borough RLFC, 1963–1987 tenancy).

Sourcing caveat: No source found gives a seated/standing capacity figure specifically for Borough Park, so capacity has been omitted rather than guessed. The ground's two headline attendance records (12,015 in 1955 and 22,000 in 1957) both belong to Bloomfield Road, the club's earlier shared ground, not to Borough Park itself — an initial source summary conflated the two grounds, which cross-checking against the verbatim Wikipedia text corrected.

Rugby league history

Blackpool Borough moved to Borough Park in 1963 after their previous venue, Blackpool Greyhound Stadium, was sold for housing; the club had shared Bloomfield Road (Blackpool FC's football ground) before that, and it was at Bloomfield Road — not Borough Park — that the club set both of its best-known attendance figures: 12,015 for a 1955 draw with the touring New Zealand Kiwis, and a club-record 22,000 for a 1957 Challenge Cup tie against Leigh. Borough Park itself also hosted greyhound racing from 1967 (an independent, non-NGRC track, home to the 'Blackpool Derby') until 1997. Ground-safety requirements forced the rugby league club out in early 1987, and Borough Park was demolished shortly after; Blackpool Borough itself limped on before reforming and eventually folding as Blackpool Gladiators in 1997.

Independent (non-NGRC) greyhound racing ran at Borough Park from 1967 to 1997, including the well-known 'Blackpool Derby' meeting.
