Rugby league history
Carlisle Grounds in Bray, County Wicklow, primarily the home of League of Ireland football club Bray Wanderers, opened in 1862 as Bray Athletic Ground before being renamed for the 7th Earl of Carlisle the same year. Ireland's national rugby league team moved its internationals there from 2015, with Rugby League Ireland explicitly framing the move as a way to embed the sport in the Bray community; the first match, a 34-0 win over Belgium on 12 July 2015, was followed by fixtures against Malta, Wales, Jamaica and Russia through 2016.
