Name history
Rugby league history
This St Helens ground traces back to a colliery welfare tradition typical of the Lancashire coalfield, growing out of the Clock Face Colliery Miners' Institute (opened 1914) and historically also hosting the colliery's football club and athletics sports days. It is now the home of the amateur Clock Face Miners rugby league club, whose three recorded Challenge Cup preliminary-round matches here span 2019-2024, all played against fellow amateur sides (Siddal twice, and Heworth).
