Sourcing caveat: Located on the Jarrow/South Shields boundary, though data/venues.py and Rugby League Project's own regional grouping file this venue under 'Newcastle' — a broader-region label, not a claim about the ground's physical address.

Rugby league history
Originally the works sports ground of the Filtrona cigarette-filter company, redeveloped in 1992 as the permanent home of South Shields F.C. and renamed Filtrona Park (later Mariners Park, then 1st Cloud Arena under later sponsorship deals). Gateshead Thunder played four Championship 1 games there in 2012, and a further five in 2013, while their usual Gateshead International Stadium pitch was being re-laid — the largest recorded crowd, 398, came for the opening game of that spell, a 40-18 loss to Barrow on 10 June 2012.
