Rugby league history
The long-time home of Rotherham United until the club left in 2008, Millmoor has essentially no rugby league heritage of its own. Its sole recorded rugby league fixture was a Second Division match on 29 March 1985, in which Swinton beat Sheffield 34-2 in front of 1,146 spectators; Sheffield's own official heritage site confirms this fixture was relocated to Rotherham United's Millmoor ground because Sheffield's usual home, Owlerton, was unavailable due to stock car racing that day. As of 2026 the derelict, part-rebuilt stadium is being demolished.
