Name history
Rugby league history
Monkton Stadium is chiefly a purpose-built athletics venue in Jarrow, South Tyneside, opened around 1988 and still home to Jarrow and Hebburn Athletic Club. Its rugby league history is sparse and spread across two decades: two Gateshead Thunder National League Two fixtures in 2003 (against Workington and London), and a single Challenge Cup tie for amateur side Jarrow Vikings in February 2023. Whether Gateshead Thunder considered the ground a genuine secondary home or just an occasional venue in 2003 -- their better-documented base in that era was Gateshead International Stadium -- is not confirmed by any source found.
