Rugby league history
Hunslet's home for 85 years, renowned in its day for having one of the best playing surfaces in the sport — good enough that touring Australian sides used it as a training venue. The club completed the historic "All Four Cups" sweep (Championship, Challenge Cup, Yorkshire League and Yorkshire Cup) in the 1907-08 season — only the third club ever to do it — though that Challenge Cup Final itself was played at Fartown, Huddersfield, not at Parkside. Hunslet also beat Widnes at Wembley in the 1934 Challenge Cup Final, in the club's 50th-anniversary year, before touring the trophy back to Parkside. The ground's stand was burned down by vandals in 1971; financially squeezed, the club sold the site to an industrial developer for around £300,000 in 1972 and played its last game there — a 5-22 loss to York — on 21 April 1973. Hunslet reformed under the "New Hunslet" name and, after several interim grounds, eventually settled at South Leeds Stadium, less than half a mile from Parkside's former site — which is why South Leeds Stadium, not Parkside, is the club's current-day venue listing.
A bowling green and cricket ground sat adjacent to the rugby pitch.
