Rugby league history
Redheugh Park's single recorded rugby league occasion was a full England Test against the touring Kangaroos, drawing a substantial crowd for a Gateshead venue — evidence of rugby league's reach into the North East of England during the touring-Test era of the 1930s, a region better known today for football (Newcastle United, Sunderland, Middlesbrough) rather than rugby league, which is concentrated further west in Yorkshire and Lancashire.
