Rugby league history
Salthouse was an early home ground of Millom, one of Cumbria's oldest rugby clubs (founded 1873), during the club's first years in Northern Union rugby league following its 1897 switch of codes from rugby union. Rugby League Project records matches at the ground from the 1897 Challenge Cup through at least the 1900-01 Lancashire Senior Competition season, including a Cumberland v Yorkshire county championship match on 25 November 1899 that drew a reported crowd of 3,500 — well above the club's typical gate, indicative of a ground capable of hosting representative fixtures. Millom's current home, Coronation Field on Devonshire Road, is a separate site; no source found gives the date or circumstances of the move away from Salthouse.
