Name history
Rugby league history
A representative-fixtures venue in Maryport, Cumbria, distinct from the town's other historic ground, Athletic Ground (Maryport). All three recorded matches are Cumberland vs Yorkshire County Championship fixtures in the early 1920s (1920, 1922 twice), which Cumberland lost all three times. The best-attended, 6,000 on 6 November 1920, is the crowd figure recorded on this site; County Championship fixtures against Yorkshire regularly drew large crowds in this era, plausibly explaining the turnout, though the figure is sourced only to Rugby League Project and could not be independently corroborated via a contemporary newspaper source. A separate, unrelated 1911 Kangaroo Tour match at Maryport's other ground (Athletic Ground) also drew a crowd of 6,000 -- an independently corroborated coincidence that should not be confused with this venue or match. No capacity, floodlight or playing-surface information could be found.
