Rugby league history

Across the road from Twickenham Stadium, the Stoop is best known as Harlequins' rugby union home, but it has also been a significant rugby league venue in its own right. London Broncos shared the ground with Harlequins in spells from 1995 -- including 1995-96, 1997-99 and a longer run from 2006 to 2013 when the rugby league club rebranded as Harlequins RL to align with its landlords -- and returned again in 2024. The ground hosted the annual Rugby League Varsity Match between Oxford and Cambridge from 2006 to 2011, and staged a full international on 24 October 2009 when the Rugby League Four Nations brought reigning champions New Zealand and holders Australia together in a 20-20 draw watched by 12,360, one of the higher-profile rugby league fixtures played in London since Wembley's heyday.

The Stoop is primarily an active rugby union venue, the long-standing home of Harlequins (Premiership Rugby) and a regular host of England Women fixtures, the 2010 Women's Rugby World Cup final and Women's Sevens Series matches; it has also staged concerts since 2017.
