Name history
Rugby league history
The long-standing home of Carlisle RFC (rugby union) in eastern Carlisle, near Brunton Park football stadium. A grandstand was added in 1923, and the ground suffered severe damage in the January 2005 Great Carlisle Flood, forcing the club to play elsewhere for the rest of that season. Its rugby league history is a brief footnote: Carlisle RLFC's usual home was Gillford Park, but the club played three 1995/96 Second Division fixtures at Warwick Road instead, all wins, culminating in a 40-8 win over York in front of 571 spectators, the top crowd recorded on this site -- the specific reason for the temporary ground-share was not documented in any source checked.
