Name history
Rugby league history
The recreation ground of New Earswick, a Quaker-founded model village on the outskirts of York, shared today by New Earswick Cricket Club and New Earswick All Blacks rugby league club. Its earliest recorded rugby league fixtures were not club matches at all: York representative sides played the touring New Zealand Kiwis here in 1947 and 1951, the first drawing the ground's largest-ever crowd of 4,500. It later became New Earswick All Blacks' home ground, hosting early-round Challenge Cup qualifying ties between 1998 and 2001; the amateur club continues to play in the Yorkshire Men's League today.
