Woodlands Memorial Ground

Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England

Woodlands Memorial Ground, Lytham St Annes, England — opened 1920, 71 rugby league games hosted, home of Fylde RFC (rugby union, continuously since 1920); Blackpool Panthers (rugby league tenant, 2005/06-2010).

Sourcing caveat: Wikipedia's Fylde RFC history and the Blackpool Panthers agreement are described as starting in 2006; Rugby League Project's own results listing has the earliest recorded Panthers fixture there in February 2005 — likely a brief earlier ground-share ahead of the formal six-year deal, not independently resolved here.

Rugby league history

The Woodlands Memorial Ground is primarily a rugby union venue, the long-standing home of Fylde RFC since 1920 (named in memory of club members who died in WWII from 1946), but it had a spell as a rugby league venue when Blackpool Panthers moved in as tenants. The Panthers used the ground temporarily in 2006 while their own stadium underwent maintenance, then signed a six-year deal in October 2006 to base their administrative operations and home National League/Championship fixtures there. Rugby League Project's results archive records Panthers matches at the ground from February 2005 through their last recorded fixture there, a Championship 1 semi-final against Rochdale on 12 September 2010 (attendance 453) — 71 games in total, spanning National League Cup, Challenge Cup, National League Two, Championship 1 and UK Third Division competitions, with crowds typically in the low hundreds.

The ground's primary and continuous use has been by Fylde RFC for rugby union; the highest recorded attendance is a 1970 rugby union fixture against Fijian tourists (7,600).
