1975-76 NBA Season Standings

Boston won its 13th title, beating Phoenix in a Finals remembered for the triple-overtime Game 5 at the old Boston Garden, still regarded as one of the most dramatic games in NBA history. This was the final NBA season before the ABA-NBA merger (the ABA itself folded after crowning the New York Nets champions that spring, setting up the Nets and three other ABA franchises to join the NBA the following season). The league held steady at 18 teams, with the former Kansas City-Omaha Kings simplifying their name to the Kansas City Kings after having spent time as an Omaha co-tenant following the franchise's 1972 move from Cincinnati. Golden State, the defending champion, could not replicate its title run and finished well behind Boston atop the overall standings.

Sourcing caveat: Philadelphia and Buffalo tied at 46-36 in the East; New York and New Orleans tied at 38-44. 18 teams total (9 East, 9 West).
