1949 Season — Final Standings (NFL & AAFC)

Final regular-season standings for the AAFC's final season before its collapse: the league abandoned divisional play for a single seven-team table feeding a four-team playoff, while Brooklyn's Dodgers merged outright into the New York Yankees (playing as "Brooklyn-New York Yankees") and Chicago's Rockets were rebranded the Hornets under new ownership. Cleveland completed a fourth consecutive AAFC championship (beating San Francisco, who had upset Brooklyn-New York in the semifinal) to close a four-year run of 47-4-3 that remains one of the most dominant stretches in American pro sports history. Weeks later, on December 9, 1949, the AAFC folded, with only Cleveland, San Francisco, and Baltimore surviving into the NFL for 1950. On the NFL side, Philadelphia beat the Los Angeles Rams for a second straight title, while Ted Collins's Boston Yanks franchise, having relocated to New York for this season as the New York Bulldogs, would be renamed the New York Yanks in 1950 and stocked largely with the rights to the just-folded AAFC Yankees' own players.
