1953 NFL Season — Final Standings

Final regular-season standings, the season the league renamed its conferences back to Eastern and Western (from American/National) and Baltimore returned to the NFL map via a brand-new Rosenbloom-owned expansion franchise built from the roster and assets of the just-folded Dallas Texans. Despite inheriting the Texans' players, the NFL and the Colts organization itself do not count this as a continuation of the Texans (or of the unrelated 1950 AAFC-holdover Colts) — the Texans remain, to this day, the most recent NFL franchise to fold without its history being claimed by any successor. Detroit repeated as champion in a squeaker over Cleveland, 17-16.
