1990 NFL Season — Final Standings
Final regular-season standings, the first season of the 3-division-winners + 3-wild-cards (6 seeds/conference, 12-team) playoff format, up from 2 wild cards previously. The AFC Central produced a genuine three-way tie at 9-7 (Cincinnati, Houston, Pittsburgh); Cincinnati won the division on head-to-head record, Houston took the wild card on conference record, and Pittsburgh missed the playoffs entirely despite matching both other teams' records. New Orleans made the playoffs at an exactly-.500 8-8, the only non-winning playoff team this season. The New England Patriots finished 1-15.
