Club Background
The Dolphins became the NRL's 17th team in 2023, the league's first new licence since the Titans in 2007. The bid grew out of Redcliffe Dolphins, a Queensland Cup club founded in 1947, which launched its push for a top-flight licence in September 2020 and was granted one in October 2021; Wayne Bennett was appointed inaugural head coach around a squad led by captain Jesse Bromwich. Operating as a spin-off of the parent Redcliffe club, the new NRL entity dropped "Redcliffe" from its name to broaden its Brisbane-wide appeal, playing home games at Suncorp Stadium.

Club history
The Dolphins became the NRL's 17th team, entering the competition in 2023 as the league's first new licence since the Titans in 2007. The push began when the Redcliffe Dolphins, a long-established Queensland Cup club founded in 1947, launched a formal NRL bid in September 2020; the NRL granted an official licence in October 2021. Wayne Bennett was appointed inaugural head coach, building a squad anchored by Jesse Bromwich (inaugural captain), his brother Kenny Bromwich, and Felise Kaufusi.
Although operating as a spin-off of the parent Redcliffe club, the NRL entity dropped "Redcliffe" from its name to broaden its appeal across South-East Queensland; the Queensland Cup feeder side retained the Redcliffe Dolphins branding. The club's red, white and gold colours were deliberately chosen with gold added to avoid a clash with the similarly red-and-white St George Illawarra Dragons. Home matches are principally played at Suncorp Stadium. The team opened its top-flight history with a 28-18 win over the Sydney Roosters and immediately built a rivalry with the Brisbane Broncos dubbed the "Battle of Brisbane."
