The ground has a genuine rugby league pedigree, having hosted at least four Challenge Cup semi-finals (2008, 2011, 2016 and 2024) as well as international fixtures, including the opening match of the 2009 Four Nations, England's 34–12 win over France on 23 October 2009. At the 2021 Rugby League World Cup it was one of the group-stage venues, hosting France's 34–12 win over Greece on 17 October 2022 (4,182), Samoa's 72–4 win over Greece on 23 October 2022 (4,415), and Papua New Guinea's 36–0 win over Wales on 31 October 2022 (6,968), all played under the Eco-Power Stadium name.

Primarily Doncaster Rovers' football stadium, though the semi-professional Doncaster rugby league club has also used it as a home venue.
