Crown Oil Arena
Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England
Crown Oil Arena, Rochdale, England — opened 1988, 570 rugby league games hosted, home of Rochdale Hornets (shared with Rochdale AFC, the ground's primary tenant).
Sourcing caveat: The 120-4 Challenge Cup record score against Illingworth (13 March 2005) is well corroborated for Rochdale Hornets generally, but this research could not independently confirm Crown Oil Arena/Spotland as the specific venue for that fixture (as opposed to an away or neutral tie) — included in general club context rather than as a confirmed venue record for that reason.

Rugby league history
Crown Oil Arena is primarily Rochdale AFC's home, but has hosted Rochdale Hornets rugby league since the Hornets sold their previous Athletic Grounds ground (their home since 1894) in 1987/88 amid financial difficulty. The Hornets' record Spotland attendance, 8,150, was set against Oldham on Boxing Day 1989. The ground has hosted representative honours too: a 2013 Rugby League World Cup pool match between Fiji and Ireland drew close to 9,000 spectators, and it staged the 1995 Emerging Nations tournament. In 2005 Rochdale Hornets set what was then rugby league's biggest-ever score in a competitive match, beating amateur side Illingworth 120-4 in the Challenge Cup, though that match itself may have been played at Spotland or another venue depending on the round (exact venue for that specific fixture not separately confirmed here). The sponsored name changed to Crown Oil Arena in August 2016 under a naming-rights deal with Crown Oil Ltd, a Rochdale-based fuel distributor.
