Rugby league history
Erskineville Oval was Newtown's original home before the club moved to Henson Park in 1954, citing inadequate crowd amenities and a playing surface that had become too hard. The ground also hosted a 1909 VFL exhibition match (Geelong v Collingwood) and NSWFL soccer finals in 1910, 1914 and 1919, before its modern life as South Sydney's training base.
