Rugby league history

Newtown moved to Henson Park from Erskineville Oval, and the ground remained their top-flight home until relegation from the NSWRFL/ARL premiership at the end of 1983. Unlike many other foundation clubs' former grounds, Henson Park has stayed in continuous rugby league use — Newtown still play there in the modern NSW Cup, and a further redevelopment was completed in 2026.
