Morry Breen Oval

Central Coast (Kanwal), New South Wales, Australia

Morry Breen Oval, Central Coast (Kanwal), Australia — opened 1973, 115 rugby league games hosted, home of Wyong Roos.

Sourcing caveat: This project's briefing suggested a link to 'the Central Coast Roosters' feeder arrangement, but the sourced material instead documents Wyong Roos as a Sydney Roosters NSW Cup feeder club (2013–2018) — that correction is reflected above rather than the original guess. The oval's opening year (1973) rests on a single source and should be treated as approximate. NBN News gives Morry Breen's age at death as 82 in October 2018, implying a birth year of roughly 1936; this is a derived approximation, not a directly stated fact.

Rugby league history

Morry Breen Oval, in Kanwal on the NSW Central Coast, is home to the Wyong Roos, one of the district's oldest clubs (founded 1910) with 21 total premierships between 1928 and 2016. The ground is named for Morry Breen OAM (1936–2018), described by the club as "the father of our Club" for his role establishing Wyong Leagues Club as a footballer, coach, workers' advocate and community figure; he received an Order of Australia Medal for services to rugby league in 2018, shortly before his death. Wyong Roos served as a Sydney Roosters NSW Cup feeder club from 2013 to 2018 (developing players including Mitch Williams and Willis Meehan before their NRL debuts), and the oval hosted NRL pre-season trial matches in 2014 and 2015, including Penrith Panthers v Wyong Roos on 7 February 2015.
