Rugby league history
Cronulla-Sutherland has called the ground home since midway through the 1968 NSWRFL season, and the Sharks are one of only two NRL clubs to own and operate their own stadium outright. It set its rugby league attendance record of 22,302 for a 2004 clash with St George Illawarra. Under the interim "Sharks Stadium" name it hosted a 2025 NRL Elimination Final on 13 September, in which Cronulla-Sutherland beat the Sydney Roosters 20-10, before the ground was renamed Ocean Protect Stadium under a new naming-rights deal later that year. The ground opened for rugby league on 30 June 1968 with Cronulla-Sutherland's 10-7 win over Parramatta.
