Rugby league history
Built for the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, the stadium became the Melbourne Storm's home for most of the club's first 12 seasons — missing only 2001, when the Storm played at Docklands instead. It also hosted a 1990 State of Origin Game 2 (before the Storm's existence) and a 1991 Australia v New Zealand Test that remains the ground's all-time attendance record. The stadium was demolished in 2012, two years after the Storm had relocated to the newly built AAMI Park next door.
