Rugby league history
Central Coast Stadium was used as a shared home venue during the ill-fated Northern Eagles joint venture between Manly-Warringah and North Sydney, 2000-2002, intended largely to serve North Sydney's fan base away from Sydney's northern beaches. Declining attendances saw the Eagles abandon Gosford fixtures partway through 2002, and the club reverted to Manly Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval before the joint venture collapsed entirely. The ground remains active today as the home of A-League club Central Coast Mariners, and continues to occasionally host NRL and Super Rugby fixtures.
