Rugby league history
Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan was the Canberra Raiders' home ground for their first eight NSWRFL seasons, from the club's 1982 entry until their move to Bruce Stadium (now GIO Stadium) for the 1990 season. Notable matches there included the Raiders' first-ever win (Round 8, 1982, beating Newtown 12-11), a 1988 Prime Minister's XIII win over the touring Great Britain Lions, and the Raiders' final home game at the ground, a 16-6 win over Illawarra on 20 August 1989. The Raiders have returned for occasional pre-season trials in the years since (including 2015, 2017, 2021 and 2026), keeping the ground's status as their spiritual home.
