Name history
Rugby league history
Sixfields Stadium is fundamentally a football ground, the home of Northampton Town F.C. since it opened in October 1994, and was previously also used by Northampton Saints (rugby union) before their later move to a redeveloped Franklin's Gardens. Its rugby league use was limited to one-off showcase fixtures rather than any club tenancy: two 1995 Emerging Nations Cup matches (Moldova vs Morocco, and Scotland vs USA) and a 1998 Super League match between Halifax and Sheffield Eagles (crowd 3,087, the top figure recorded on this site). No rugby league club, amateur or otherwise, was found to have used Sixfields as a home ground.
