Rugby league history
Built on the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, on the site of the demolished Don Valley Stadium, this ground gave Sheffield Eagles a permanent home back in their own city after years of wandering — the club had left Don Valley in 2010 for Bramall Lane, returned to Don Valley in 2011, then after Don Valley's 2013 closure and 2014 demolition played variously at Owlerton Stadium (the city's greyhound track), Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster, Sheffield Hallam University's Sports Park, and finally Wakefield Trinity's Belle Vue for the 2017 season, before settling at the Legacy Park site in 2018. The stadium's first permanent stand was completed in January 2022, and the ground — previously known only as the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park Community Stadium — was renamed Steel City Stadium in March 2025 to reflect the city's industrial heritage.
