Rugby league history

The Illawarra Steelers played every home match here from their 1982 NSWRL entry until the 1999 merger with St George created the Dragons, who have continued to play a share of home games at the ground ever since — currently around six of twelve fixtures a season. Beyond club rugby league, the ground has hosted City v Country Origin matches (1948-2008), 2003 and 2008 Rugby League World Cup fixtures, the 2014 Four Nations, and even a 2018 Super League match between Wigan and Hull FC.
