1969 Season — Final Standings (NFL & AFL)

Final regular-season standings for the last season before the full AFL-NFL merger. The AFL introduced a four-team playoff for the first time (both top finishers from each division, not just the two division champions), and it was decisive: second-place Kansas City (11-3) upset both the defending-champion New York Jets and the better-record Oakland Raiders (12-1-1) to reach the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs beat the NFL's Minnesota Vikings (12-2 in a still-thin Central Division) 23-7 in Super Bowl IV — ensuring the AFL closed out its final season as full equals rather than needing another upset to prove it.
