OneBore Stadium

Castleford, West Yorkshire, England

OneBore Stadium, Castleford, England — opened 1926, 1,841 rugby league games hosted, home of Castleford Tigers.

Sourcing caveat: Specific dates/opponents for Wheldon Road's international touring-team matches (documented in general terms as spanning 1929-1994) could not be independently confirmed beyond a single 28 October 1970 England fixture where even the opponent was not clearly given in sources found; reported here as a general span rather than a fabricated match list.

Rugby league history

Castleford Tigers' home since 1927, traditionally known as Wheldon Road (and long nicknamed "The Jungle") regardless of the sponsor name of the day. The ground's all-time attendance record, 25,449, was set for a 1934-35 Challenge Cup third-round tie against Hunslet; the Super League-era record is 11,731, for a league match against Leeds Rhinos on 7 March 2004. Renamed The OneBore Stadium from 13 August 2025 under a two-year naming-rights deal with local tunnelling firm OneBore Tunnelling, timed just ahead of the club's 2026 centenary year, after a proposed replacement ground (the long-mooted Five Towns Stadium/Axiom scheme in nearby Glasshoughton) repeatedly stalled and was abandoned in favour of redeveloping the existing Wheldon Road site.

Originally also home to Castleford Town F.C. (association football) from 1926.

Historic Test matches, Cup & Grand Finals hosted

  • 1934/35 Challenge Cup third round, 9 March 1935 — Castleford v Hunslet, attendance 25,449 (the ground's all-time attendance record; not a Challenge Cup Final)
  • Hosted international touring-team fixtures from 1929 to 1994 (individual dates, opponents and scores not independently confirmed in sources found, beyond a documented 28 October 1970 England international)
