Rugby league history

Halifax's home for 112 years, opened in 1886 and closed in 1998 when the club moved to groundshare at The Shay with Halifax Town AFC. Hosted the 1913-14 Challenge Cup Final (Hull FC beat Wakefield Trinity 6-0) and several Yorkshire Senior Competition / Championship deciders, plus international touring-team fixtures against Australia and New Zealand across the first half of the 20th century. The ground's attendance record, 29,153, was set for a third-round Challenge Cup tie against Wigan on 21 March 1959 — well above its final, post-Taylor-Report capacity of 9,832. It also briefly hosted speedway racing (1928-1930) and staged first-class cricket matches in the 1880s-90s.
