Rugby league history

As a football ground without a resident rugby league club, the stadium's rugby league fixtures have been occasional rather than regular, but it has hosted Challenge Cup semi-final double-headers in 2018 (Warrington 14-7 St Helens; Catalans Dragons 24-6 Wigan Warriors, 5 August) and 2019 (Warrington v Hull FC; St Helens v Halifax). It was also an official host venue of the 2000 Rugby League World Cup, though the specific match(es) played there under the Reebok Stadium name are not identified in sources found. At the rearranged 2021 Rugby League World Cup, it staged England's 42–18 group win over France on 22 October 2022, in front of 23,648 — the largest confirmed rugby league crowd at the ground and one of the tournament's biggest attendances outside a knockout match.

The stadium is primarily the home of Bolton Wanderers FC and has hosted football internationals and concerts alongside its occasional rugby league use.
