St Helens 13–18 Warrington Wolves — Semi-Final, 2018 Super League Finals Series

4 Oct 2018 · Totally Wicked Stadium, St Helens · Attendance: 12,309

Data last verified: 11 August 2026.

Semi-Final, 2018 Super League finals series: St Helens 13–18 Warrington Wolves, at Totally Wicked Stadium, St Helens on 4 Oct 2018.

Sourcing caveat: Attendance (12,309) comes from a single strong source (Rugby League Project) rather than two independently corroborating figures — no conflicting figure was found, but a second confirmation wasn't obtained. Jon Wilkin is confirmed captain (per Rugby League Project's own lineup page); James Roby, St Helens' usual hooker/captain, started this match on the bench, with Morgan Knowles filling in at hooker — reported as found rather than assumed to be an error. Warrington's Bodene Thompson has no confirmed jersey number: Rugby League Project's own match page repeats Jack Hughes' number (12) for Thompson too, an apparent clash on the source's own page (independently re-checked, same result both times) rather than a fetch error — recorded as `"UNCONFIRMED"` here.

Match report

Warrington Wolves beat League Leaders' Shield winners St Helens 18-13 at Totally Wicked Stadium in a match that changed hands four times. Tom Lineham, returning from a reduced suspension, scored two well-taken second-half tries either side of a Jack Hughes try to put Warrington in front, while St Helens' Danny Richardson kicked three drop goals — one bouncing off the crossbar — on top of a Luke Douglas try and three conversions. St Helens nearly forced a late comeback through a Ben Barba break and Jonny Lomax move that broke down. The result sent Warrington, under coach Steve Price, to their 4th Grand Final in seven years.
