Club Background

The Gold Coast Titans joined the NRL in 2007 as its 16th team, ending nearly a decade without top-flight rugby league on the coast since the earlier Gold Coast Chargers folded in 1998. Admission followed a long campaign led by Michael Searle's consortium, with NRL approval in 2005 tied to a A$100 million Queensland Government commitment for a new stadium at Robina; a public vote settled on the "Titans" name and gold, white and navy colours after the proposed "Dolphins" name drew legal objection. They compete in the NRL, playing at Robina Stadium — now Cbus Super Stadium — their home since 2008 after a debut season at Carrara.

Club history

The Gold Coast Titans joined the National Rugby League in 2007 as its 16th team, ending nearly a decade without top-flight rugby league on the coast after the earlier Gold Coast Chargers folded in 1998. Admission followed a long campaign by a local consortium fronted by Michael Searle; NRL approval came in 2005 once the Queensland Government committed A$100 million toward a new 25,000-seat venue at Robina. The proposed name "Gold Coast Dolphins" was dropped after legal objections from the Queensland Cup's Redcliffe Dolphins, and a public vote settled on "Titans" in September 2005, with colours of gold, white and navy blue reflecting the coastline.

The Titans played their debut 2007 season at Carrara Stadium while their permanent home was finished, moving into Robina Stadium (now Cbus Super Stadium) from 2008. Their arrival fulfilled long-held regional ambition for a senior team giving local juniors a genuine NRL pathway, and the club has become a fixture of the competition's Queensland footprint. Note: this canonical page covers the modern Titans franchise (2007-present); the earlier 1988-1998 Gold Coast entrants (Giants, Seagulls, Chargers) are a separate, unrelated lineage — see the Gold Coast Chargers page.
