Rugby league history
Warrington Wolves moved into the Halliwell Jones Stadium in February 2004, ending over a century at Wilderspool, and the ground opened with a 34–20 win over Wakefield Trinity. It has since hosted the 2004 European Nations Championship Final, England 36-12 Ireland, on 7 November 2004, along with multiple Challenge Cup semi-finals and a run of Championship Grand Finals from 2006-2010. The stadium hosted matches at the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and four matches at the 2021 Rugby League World Cup (played Oct–Nov 2022), including New Zealand's 34–12 win over Lebanon, Samoa's 62–4 win over France, and Tonga's 18-20 quarter-final loss to Samoa.
